You couldn’t write a worse start to the Vancouver Canucks’ 2022-23 season if you tried.

After going 0-3-2 on their season-opening road trip, the Canucks returned home for their home opener against the Buffalo Sabres.

After coming out of the gate seemingly somewhat strong, the Canucks fell apart as the night went on, and fans let them hear it in the third period en route to a 5-1 loss.

Fans were booing for most of the third, as the Canucks were trailing by just a goal heading into the period but quickly made it apparent that they were going to put in a miraculously low effort to forge a comeback.

“I’m just glad I didn’t pay for my tickets, I couldn’t imagine paying to watch this team right now,” said one fan leaving Rogers Arena.

“I’ve never booed anyone but the referees at a Canucks game and tonight I felt obligated to boo the Canucks after that pathetic performance,” said another.

It’s true, the boo birds were out in full force for the third period, and the anger of fans was given an exclamation point when four jerseys were thrown on the ice as the period neared its conclusion.

“I hope the players feel the same way I do about it, it’s totally embarrassing,” said head coach Bruce Boudreau about the fans’ reaction tonight. “If I was the fans I would’ve been frustrated too.”
