Activity on the prospect front is actively dying down, with fewer and fewer things to discuss with each passing week. But regardless of that, I’ll be writing about whatever little bits of news there are until the owners of this blog drag me away from my computer kicking and screaming. 
With that being said, I should point out that the Canucks still have two prospects playing for their respective league championships at the moment, and looking ahead, there will be a Bo Horvat sighting at the Memorial Cup to go along with the IIHF World Championships that are getting underway shortly.

American Hockey League

There’s nothing new here to touch on, really, but I just wanted to use this as an opportunity to plug the complete analytical breakdown of the Utica Comets which we ran earlier this week
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Joacim Eriksson will be representing Sweden at the aforementioned IIHF World Championships being played in Belarus. He’ll be joined by fellow Canucks prospect Ronalds Kenins, who has been named to the Latvian roster.

  • North Bay is currently down 1-3 in the OHL Final against Guelph and last night they took a merciless 10-1 beatdown. Liberati was a -4 on the night. Not a banner night for the player or the team, to say the least.
  • Despite that most recent showing, Liberati gets some love from Canucks.com as they discuss the final two prospects in their league finals.

  • Portland was up 2-0 on Edmonton in their series but Edmonton has now come back to tie it up at 2-2.
  • Cederholm played in all four games, registering just the 1 assist, and earning a -1 to go along with 2 PIMs.
  • Buzzing the Net also used up some digital ink in covering this series.
  • How did Portland get So Good? Apparently the Winterhawks’ GM is in the mix for Canucks GM consideration.
  • @butyoucarlotta manually tracks a bunch of data on Portland so follow her if you want some Cederholm/Winterhawks-specific fancy stats. Above is her data for Game 3.

    • Included above are the NHL Equivalency Numbers for the Canucks Prospects at the end of their Regular Season. Rodin is likely luck driven due to high QoT and high Sh%. Meanwhile, as we’ve reiterated here ad nauseam, Dane Fox is an OAer which most certainly helps him. It’s not all negative, though — Cole Cassels finished his year in impressive fashion, winding up even higher than Gaunce who has a year on him.
    • I figured that since there’s not a lot of news these days it would be best to start up a false controversy, to keep the conversation going. On Sunday during Game 7 for the Toronto Raptors plenty of Canucks Prospects and bottom-line players (Gaunce, Subban, Dalpe, Sestito) were seen tweeting about the game. It sounds like these players aren’t very dedicated to their offseason training and really we should be questioning their commitment to the team. After all, shouldn’t they be in the gym rather than presumably sitting on their couches watching basketball?
    • How does Travis Green prepare for each Utica game? UticaComets.com has a well written read on this. Suffice it to say that he’s one impressive man, and as he gains experience in the field, it’s easy to envision his name becoming one that circulates often for open coaching vacancies.
    • Alex Friesen gets covered by UticaComets.com after tearing things up in the stretch run.
    • After the official vote by the AHL Board of Governors was passed, the Abbotsford Heat are to move to Glens Falls, New York. Rumor has it that Abbotsford might have an ECHL team move into their arena. How did this all happen!?? 
    • As the AHL moves onto its second round of the Calder Cup, I have written a possession preview over at NHLNumbers.com
    • acby posted a study on Reddit’s /r/Canucks on the ability to draft and develop Canucks Prospects (post-1st round) since 2000 and found, unsurprisingly, the Canucks have been terrible.
