Another week, another new host. This time it’s CanucksArmy’s own Jackson McDonald who stepped up to the plate in Jon Abbott’s stead, as he makes his return from the World Juniors to Vancouver and Nation Network Radio in time for next week’s episode.
Our intrepid hosts step into the studio mere hours after the Canucks 3-2 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada. That means they’re providing post-game coverage of a solid Canucks effort with an undesirable end. Still, there was a lot to like about the Canucks in that hockey game, and Burke and McDonald aren’t shy about offering that perspective.
The Vancouver Courier’s own Daniel Wagner of Pass it to Bulis joins the show in the second segment and provides some insight into why he thinks Ben Hutton should return to the Canucks lineup. Wagner also talks about an article he wrote about the Canucks management group needing to accept responsibility for the roster in front of them.
In the second segment, Burke and McDonald shift gears to talk about the Canadian win over the Swedes in the Gold Medal game of the World Junior Hockey Championship. They disagree with the roster construction process and how the players that did make the team were deployed, but there’s no arguing with the results, and they credit the Canadian blue line for much of that success. Afterwards, they take a wide-lens look at how the Canucks’ prospects performed at large in the tournament.
To help the hosts dissect the Canucks prospect’s performances at the World Juniors, CanucksArmy’s own Darryl Keeping joins the hosts in the fifth segment. They discuss Keeping’s micro-statistic tracking and what inferences one can make with that data when performing player and team analysis.
