Canucks reduce training camp roster by 4

Sep 28, 2016, 13:08 EDTUpdated:
Following their first pre-season game last night, it was announced earlier this morning that the Canucks have further reduced their training camp roster.
Defenceman Jordan Subban and Ashton Sautner, as well as forwards Wacey Hamilton and Carter Bancks were assigned to the Utica Comets.
The assignments of Sautner, Hamilton and Bancks were not surprising simply because Sautner was down on the defensive depth chart and the forwards were signed to AHL deals.
The Subban assignment isn’t surprising either, but will be met with a bit of frustration from fans simply because they are excited to see the young defenceman. With that being said, Subban does need to work on his decision making and defensive zone positioning, both of which will be something that he can focus on in Utica.
Subban did not stand out in Young Stars, but according to Jon Abbott of TSN 1040, did well in the un-televised game in San Jose last night. It is worth noting that Subban did post a 22% CF% last night, which was worst on the team.
Due to the depth on the backend, Subban wasn’t really in the conversation to make a team, so it’s once again, it’s not really a shock to see the Rexdale, ON native being assigned to Utica.
Subban is just entering his second year of his ELC, patience is still needed for the offensive defenceman.
With this round of cuts, there are now 56 players at Canucks training camp.
