The Vancouver Canucks have recalled forward Sheldon Dries under emergency conditions and have reassigned defenceman Jack Rathbone to the Abbotsford Canucks, the club announced Thursday afternoon.
Rathbone didn’t get into any games after getting called up ahead of the road trip, as the club activated Kyle Burroughs ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau offered the following reasoning for why Rathbone didn’t get a look last night:
“He looks like a really good skater,” said Boudreau. “He looks like a really good prospect. He’s bigger than I thought he was, so I mean, I’m anxious to see him play. I just thought that coming in here with no practice with the team, it would be a little bit difficult to activate him right now.”
Dries has tallied 35 goals and 27 assists through 54 games with the Abbotsford Canucks this season, and has appeared in two games for Vancouver.
Puck drop is at 7 PM as the Canucks faceoff against the Arizona Coyotes tonight. For our full game day preview article, click here.
