A slightly forgotten prospect has made a mark on the NCAA early in his collegiate career.
2017 4th round pick Jack Rathbone was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week today:
This performance saw him post one goal and one assist in the Friday night contest against Quinnipiac and then followed that up with a one goal and two assist performance against Providence on Saturday night. Rathbone now has six points (2-4-6) in three NCAA games this season.
Taken in the fourth round in 2017, the left-handed defender returned to US High School hockey last season before finally heading to Harvard this year.
Rathbone started the season on the second pairing before being moved up to the top pairing with Carolina Hurricanes prospect Adam Fox and clearly has made the most of the opportunity. Obviously, we are only a couple of games into his collegiate career but Rathbone has been solid in all three zones displaying his skating and offensively abilities regularly while showing flashes of physical play. His play in his own zone is still an area to work on thus far but he’s held his own thus far.
He likely won’t continue a 2.0 PPG pace for the season but great to see the 19-year-old off to a great start.
