A couple stumbles away from a perfect record, the Canucks have baffled the hockey world this week. They’ve received offence from the defence, thrived in 3-on-3 OT, and come back from a 3-0 deficit not once, but twice. And this is all with the powerplay not clicking and a briefly broken Ryan Miller! The Canucks have had a pretty good week and it’s hard to rank them when so many of them are having a good time. But we’ll do our best.
1. Brandon Sutter:
Brandon Sutter starts the season on top. He played the hero in the season opener and again against Carolina. And even when he’s not dramatically completing comebacks, he’s been very good.

2. Jacob Markstrom:
With Ryan Miller briefly unavailable, Markstrom made the most of his time in net. There were some stressful moments but he kept it together. Mostly.

3. Bo Horvat:
This young man is becoming quite a treat to watch. He’s already got three goals on the year! Look at Bo go.
4. Jannik Hansen:
Jannik Hansen gave the Canucks their first lead of the season, helping them to their fourth win of the season! Also, he’s HUGE in Denmark.
5. Markus Granlund:
Markus Granlund was overall rather forgettable last season, so this first week of Markus Granlund has been some unexpected fun. His stick was so hot here, it exploded.
6. Henrik Sedin:
He’s known more for his passing than his shooting but Henrik Sedin has three goals! One of them was this OT winner that was not scored by Chris Tanev.
7. Daniel Sedin:
Daniel Sedin gave the Canucks their first two-goal lead of the season and celebrated with a sick Statue of Liberty celly:
8. Ben Hutton:
Ben Hutton scored his first goal of the season and is on his way to doubling last year’s goal total. He’s also the Canucks #1 hype man.
9. Chris Tanev:
As we’ve discussed, Chris Tanev did not actually score an OT goal this week, but his goal song did play in Rogers Arena. The only way to follow up last season’s Hot in Herre.
10. Alex Edler:
Though he did some good things this week, including scoring late in Los Angeles to get the Canucks a point, Alex Edler’s performance on Sunday night was undeniably terrible. After six games in nine nights, Edler is playing an average of over 3 minutes more per game than the next highest Canuck, so hopefully he can get a good night’s sleep sometime soon.
11. Brendan Gaunce:
I barely noticed Brendan Gaunce this week, which is not a bad sign! He’s doing just fine.
12. Luca Sbisa:
There’s been some talk about Luca Sbisa playing really great so far this year. I don’t know if I’d say he’s been great, but this has been a mostly positive power rankings, so we’ll continue the trend and focus on this nice hit:
13. Philip Larsen:
Philip Larsen and the Canucks power play are a puzzle. It does seem to be finding itself, a little bit, so we’ll be patient. In the meantime then there was this. Poor Phil.
14. Jack Skille:
Jack Skille is doing his best and seems to be having fun!
15. Derek Dorsett:
Hey that’s his jersey number! Derek Dorsett had a pretty decent to the season, but then this happened:
16. Loui Eriksson:
It’s not like Loui Eriksson has been terrible – he has 4 assists on the season – but he’s goalless through six games. Unless you count the goal he scored on his own net. At least his face is being put to good use over at howmanypointsdothecanuckshave.com
17. Jake Virtanen:
Abbotsford’s son sat out a couple of games this week and was, as of Saturday, the league’s dullest player.
18. Ryan Miller:
It feels wrong to put Miller so close to the bottom of this list because he has been good! He just got hurt and returned in time for the Canucks first regulation loss of the season. SMH indeed, Ryan.
19. Alex Burrows:
Alex Burrows did not look particularly effective this week, and then he got hurt.
