The injury bug is hitting the Canucks early this year.

Just 24 hours after the club announced that forward Brock Boeser is expected to miss 3-4 weeks after recovering from successful hand surgery, Bruce Boudreau informed reporters today that Ilya Mikheyev is currently considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Mikheyev left in the second period of Sunday night’s home tilt against the Calgary Flames after taking this hit from Flames defenceman Nic Meloche:

During Tuesday’s practice out at UBC, defenceman Travis Dermott left practice with an apparent injury. It seems like nobody saw exactly what happened to Dermott, but it was clear that he was in obvious discomfort. Dermott skated to the bench on his own, but needed to be helped to the room after sitting on the bench for a brief period of time.

“He looked like he got hit there and was just feeling a little woozy,” Boudreau told reporters. “And, you know, we just said, ‘Okay if you’re feeling a little woozy, you just take the rest of the day off.’ We don’t need anybody else getting hurt.”

Boudreau also spoke about Boeser’s injury, and gave a somewhat positive update. As fans hoped for, the nature of Boeser’s injury means he’ll be able to keep his legs fresh while he recovers.

“Nobody knows how it happened,” Boudreau said of the injury. “But he’ll start skating with us in a couple of days. Maybe even as close as tomorrow… Part of his body got sore and he went out and found out that he had to have surgery… We were watching and [said] ‘what happened there?’ and he was shaking his hand, and we don’t know what happened.”

Boudreau added that Tyler Myers’ absence from practice was simply due to him being sick with a non-COVID-related illness. Boudreau expects Myers will return tomorrow.
