NOTE: Tonight’s game will be streamed on canucks.com
For the second night in a row, the Vancouver Canucks will face-off in NHL exhibition action. Last night, they beat Seattle 3-1 at Rogers Arena. Tonight they face the Calgary Flames at the Abbotsford Centre.
The game will feature some of the Canucks top stars, like Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson, making their preseason debuts, while a number of players that suited up last night will be in uniform again tonight.

What we saw

The Canucks playing group held an optional skate in Abbotsford this morning and the team will spend the day in the Fraser Valley ahead of tonight’s 7pm puck drop. Seven forwards, six defencemen and two goalies took to the ice this morning along with assistant coaches Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar. It will be closer to game time before the exact lineup for tonight’s game is known. Five forwards that played last night look to be back in action tonight: Aatu Räty, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Linus Karlsson, Sammy Blais and Max Sasson. If Christian Wolanin dresses on defence, it will mean six Canucks will be playing on consecutive nights.
It’s expected that newcomers Jake DeBrusk, Kiefer Sherwood, Daniel Sprong and Vincent Desharnais will all make their first appearances in Canucks uniforms tonight.
Jiri Patera and Nikita Tolopilo are listed as the Canucks goaltenders for tonight. Patera did not have a particularly strong training camp in Penticton and will need a decent showing throughout the preseason to solidify his spot on a Canucks goalie depth chart that has plenty of uncertainty with Thatcher Demko set to start the season on the injured list.
Players still in camp that have yet to appear in a preseason game include JT Miller, Teddy Blueger, Guillaume Brisebois, Christian Felton, Danila Klimovich, Kirill Kudryatsev, Kevin Lankinen, Ty Mueller, Tristen Nielsen and Sawyer Mynio.
This will be the Flames fourth pre-season contest. They are 3-0 so far with a win in Seattle on Sunday and a split squad sweep of Edmonton on Monday night. Calgary has outscored its opponents 18-5 so far.
Dustin Wolf is slated to get the start in goal. The Calgary line-up is expected to include a pair of Vancouver Giants alums in Samuel Honzek and Jaden Lipinski. Honzek and Matthew Corronato, who is also expected to play tonight, share the NHL preseason lead with five points apiece. As well, 2024 first round pick Zayne Parekh is on tonight’s projected roster.
While the Flames are sending a relatively young line-up to the Fraser Valley, veteran blueliner Tyson Barrie is pencilled into their line-up. Barrie is in Calgary’s camp on a PTO. Former Canucks prospect Joni Jurmo is also listed on Calgary’s roster for tonight.
The Canucks and Flames will meet again on Saturday at the Scotiabank Saddledome. These teams will also open the NHL regular season on October 9th in Vancouver.
