Fresh off a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames on Saturday night in a game in which both teams looked lifeless at best, the Vancouver Canucks are in Chicago looking for redemption against the Blackhawks.
Here are some notes on the Canucks’ lineup tonight in Chicago.

Lineup

  • Jaroslav Halak starts in goal tonight as the Canucks prepare for their final two games before the All-Star break in the form of back-to-back games.
  • Tucker Poolman remains out of the lineup. He doesn’t have COVID-19, but he “isn’t feeling well” according to head coach Bruce Boudreau who added that he’s not a doctor.
  • Tyler Myers won’t face discipline for his hit on Trevor Lewis, so he’ll be in the lineup tonight.
  • Bruce Boudreau said the Canucks will be icing the same defence group as the one they did against Calgary, meaning Noah Juulsen will once again slot into the lineup.

What was said

“Quite frankly, we didn’t play very good,” said Boudreau when asked to reflect on Saturday’s overtime loss to the Flames. “That’s the bottom line. It was a game that I hadn’t seen us play since I’ve been here. Our effort wasn’t good enough and we addressed it and we’ll get back to it today.”
We couldn’t have said it any better ourselves. The Canucks were abysmal in that game against Calgary, and it’s a miracle they even got out of it with a point.
Boudreau also talked about the workload being given to Quinn Hughes right now.
“I hope it’s 31 minutes,” Boudreau said when asked what Hughes’ limit is. “I hope that’s the ceiling. I mean, I certainly hope it doesn’t get more than that. He’s not a big man but he skates so effortlessly, it makes it easy. But when you get down to five D and your best D is also killing penalties and playing the power play, he ends up playing more minutes than you would like. In a perfect world, he would play 24-25 minutes — that means everybody’s playing well. But hopefully it doesn’t happen too often, especially when you have a back-to-back like we do tonight.”
