The NHL Department of Player Safety announced this afternoon that Vancouver Canucks forward Zack MacEwen has been suspended for one game.

The play in question came roughly midway through the second period, where MacEwen received a breakout pass just inside of his own blueline with Nurse stepping up in the play to make a hit. MacEwen took exception to the hit — which caught MacEwen looking the other way. As Nurse laid on the ice, MacEwen skated towards the bench and directed his knee towards the head of Nurse.

MacEwen has never been fined or suspended in his NHL career.
He will sit out tomorrow night’s game as the Canucks take on the Oilers for the fourth straight time at 7 PM.
