Lucas Forsell makes a nice move at the blue line to go around a defender, the puck then finds its way to Elias Pettersson (EP2), and he buries it. Goal to EP2 and secondary assist to Forsell. ✅✅ The Canucks prospects coming together for a Sweden goal. 🇸🇪

Get all your Elias Pettersson jokes out of the way, we are talking about the Canucks’ 2022 third-round pick, left-shot defenceman Elias Pettersson today.
Earlier in the week, we talked about Pettersson and fellow Canucks prospect Lucas Forsell being selected to play for Sweden’s U20 team that they sent to the Four Nations Tournament in Finland. We’ve been tuning in at five in the morning to watch and see the two prospects perform, and on Friday, Pettersson went off.
Sweden faced off against Slovakia in the second game of the tournament and Pettersson went off, scoring two goals and adding a primary assist.
The first goal saw Forsell get in on the action as well as he made a nice move at the blue line to evade a defender before the puck found Pettersson’s stick and he ripped it home for his first goal of the tournament.
We love to see Canucks prospects linking up on a goal for Sweden and we could be seeing a lot more of this with four Canucks prospects being in the mix to make team Sweden at the 2023 World Junior Championships.
Pettersson’s second goal of the game was one of those, you have to be good to be lucky and lucky to be good type of goals. He fired a shot into traffic and it took a friendly bounce before finding the back of the net. We were set into Pettersson hat trick watch early in this game as he had scored two goals in the opening 40 minutes of this game.
Elias Pettersson (EP2) has a two goal game for Sweden. This one bounced around before finding the back of the net. Two 🚨goals🚨 for re-Petey today!
The offence didn’t stop there for Pettersson as he added a primary assist late in the game with a great stretch pass through the neutral zone that set up a partial breakaway.
The camera missed him but this is a great stretch pass to set up a partial breakaway from Elias Pettersson (EP2) to set up another goal for Sweden. re-Petey has two goals and an assist today. 🔥
We have talked about Pettersson being a big, physical defenceman but the more we watch him play, we see that he looks to have more offensive potential than we first thought. re-Petey likes to step up in the offensive zone and sneak into the slot in search of a one-timer.
His defensive game was excellent once again today as he used his combination of speed and strength to knock the opposition off the puck. All in all, this was the best game we have seen from Pettersson in our early stages of watching the prospect.
As for Forsell, he was moved down to the fourth line in this game but still managed to look like one of the more dangerous forwards for Sweden. Forsell was flying out there and looks to have a lot of confidence during U20 play. This confidence likely comes from the success he had in the SHL last season and we are hoping to see Sweden make him a piece on their 2023 WJC roster.
The Four Nations Tournament concludes Saturday morning with Sweden matching up against Finland for the chance to secure the Four Nations trophy.
We will continue to follow along with Pettersson and Forsell as they have played great so far in this short tournament and look to put a bow on the weekend by getting a win against Finland and taking home the trophy from the host country.
