Jake DeBrusk is only in year one of the seven-year deal he signed with the Vancouver Canucks this past offseason, which means it’s only natural that the 27-year-old winger doesn’t yet have the hookups one needs to get the hottest ticket in town.
And no, we’re not talking about Canucks vs. Blue Jackets tonight.
Taylor Swift is closing out her multi-year Eras Tour at BC Place in Vancouver from December 6th-8th. The city is expecting an overwhelming number of Swifties, as people have travelled from all over the world to see the end of Swift’s iconic tour. Road closures are going to be all over the downtown core, traffic is sure to be a nightmare, and hotel prices have long skyrocketed in anticipation of the shows.
Tickets have been hard to come by, even for NHL players like DeBrusk. Thankfully for him, he’s already seen Swift on this tour when the Eras Tour hit Boston in May of 2023.
“I actually saw her play when she was at Gillette [Stadium] last year in the pouring rain,” DeBrusk told CanucksArmy after practice on Thursday. “She was in the pouring rain, I gained a lot of respect for her for playing out there. It was three hours of her literally getting drenched on out there. But we were sitting, me and my girlfriend, we had some pretty good seats and stuff like that.
“I wish I could go to this one, but the tickets are just so insane. And honestly, I got no hookups here,” DeBrusk said with a laugh. “At least in Boston, I was there for a couple of years, so I had people help me out to get some tickets.”
Tickets for the shows are currently reselling for $1,000 at the very minimum, and those are for nosebleeds. A lower bowl seat to Saturday’s show are currently listed anywhere from $1,500 to upwards of $5,000.
While DeBrusk wasn’t able to score tickets to see the Eras Tour, he has been scoring plenty of goals on the ice to kick off his first year in Vancouver. After a relatively quiet month of October, DeBrusk is now up to 11 goals and nine assists through 24 games, with eight goals in his last six games. This puts him on pace to finish his first year as a Canuck with 38 goals and 31 assists.
If he manages to keep that pace up, DeBrusk will have people offering him hard-to-come-by tickets in no time.
