Canucks Call Up Pedan and Gaunce Amid Wave of Injuries

Mar 15, 2016, 16:55 EDTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
The Vancouver Canucks are no more. At least, they may as well not be, with half the team seemingly out of the lineup with injuries. In their place came a few reinforcements this afternoon, as Andrey Pedan and Brendan Gaunce were called up to fill roster spots.
The news comes after Luca Sbisa, Markus Granlund, and Derek Dorsett were sidelined with injuries in last night’s loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Sbisa is out with what has been called an upper body injury and, with “week-to-week” being in the current timeline, is unlikely to return before the end of the season. Dorsett, on the other hand, has an undisclosed injury after playing out the entirety of Monday’s game. His timeline is day to day, as is Granlund’s.
Granlund left the game in the first period with what has been described as an upper-body injury. Interestingly, coach Willie Desjardin’s described his timeline as not “anytime soon” after the game, so something must have changed over the course of the evening.
Pedan has been no stranger to the up-and-downs this year, being called up on a few occasions. With that said, he hasn’t played since December 28th. That could change, especially with a potential benefit in having an additional line of communication for newcomer Nikita Tryamkin, but we don’t yet have evidence that he’ll play. Besides, with 9 points in his last 13 games, he’s certainly earned another look.
Gaunce, on the other hand, is all but guaranteed to play. he’s already appeared in four games this month, though he’s been pointless in all of them. Alex Burrows, who missed yesterday’s came is expected to join him, while Jannik Hansen is speculated to be back as soon as the coming weekend.
Vancouver’s next game is against the Colorado Avalanche at 7:00 PM tomorrow night.
