Folks, we’ve got somewhat good injury news from the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.

Prior to Monday evening’s tilt on the road with the Edmonton Oilers, the Canucks skated out at UBC with a non-travelling group consisting of their NHL regulars, and their travelling group, which as you likely saw last night, didn’t feature many NHLers.

But after both groups had vacated the ice, there was a welcome sight: Brock Boeser skating in full gear.

Boeser underwent hand surgery after injuring himself during practice on the third and final day of training camp in Whistler, and is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks.

After practice, head coach Bruce Boudreau spoke about Boeser’s progress.

“He’s been skating really hard,” Boudreau said of Boeser. “He’s still not shooting pucks right now and I think he’s got another doctor’s appointment soon, so we’ll see how that goes, but they’re putting him through quite a lot of skating, which is going to keep his conditioning up. He’s been skating with the injured guys for four or five days now.”

Boudreau added that he’s not sure when exactly Boeser will return, but the fact that he’s able to keep his legs in game shape while recovering is certainly a positive.

On Mikheyev’s condition, Boudreau said that both Mikheyev and the team are hoping he can begin skating today. The Canucks have an off day today, so we won’t be able to provide that definitive update until tomorrow at the earliest.

Mikheyev left the Canucks’ September 25th preseason game against the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury after taking a hit from Flames defenceman Nic Meloche.

On defenceman Travis Dermott, there’s still a level of uncertainty about exactly how he got injured or when he’ll be returning. Boudreau had no update on Dermott’s status yesterday.

Dermott left last Tuesday’s Canucks practice after taking a seemingly innocent-looking bump. In obvious discomfort, he skated to the bench on his own, and needed to be helped to the room after sitting on the bench for a brief period of time.
