Canucks at Canadiens | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Canucks picked up an extremely impressive win on Saturday night as they blew out the Boston Bruins 9-3. Recent trade acquisition Tyler Toffoli led the way with two goals and one assist; over his last four games (including his final two games with the Los Angeles Kings), Toffoli has racked up six goals and two assists. The excitement from this win was dampened a bit on Monday by the news that starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom will miss the next three to four weeks with a knee injury. Thatcher Demko and the newly acquired Louis Domingue will hold down the crease until Markstrom is able to return.
In their last three games on the road, the Canucks are 0-3 and have been outscored 12 to 5 per the OddsShark NHL Database.
After losing their previous five games including a particularly embarrassing 4-3 loss on the road to the Detroit Red Wings, the Canadiens have bounced back with back-to-back road wins over the Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators. Montreal was a clear seller at the deadline as it flipped Ilya Kovalchuk, Michael Peca, Nate Thompson, and Nick Cousins for picks and prospects. The Canadiens’ updated roster will try to improve on the team’s 13-15-5 home record in this matchup.
Tuesday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at sports betting sites. The OVER is 5-1 in Vancouver’s last six games.
Thatcher Demko is 10-6-2 with a 3.03 goals against average and a .905 save percentage this season and has been clearly outperformed by Jacob Markstrom who is 23-16-4 with a 2.75 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Demko and the team around him will need to step up over the next few weeks to ensure that the Canucks maintain their hold of a playoff spot over the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes.
