THE INTRO

It’s tough to follow up a thrashing like the Canucks gave Los Angeles a few nights ago but they’ll definitely try tonight. Vancouver takes on Philadelphia on Hockey Night in Canada this evening in what should be a fast-paced affair. The Flyers start their Western Canadian road trip against the Canucks and finish against the Oilers on Wednesday.

For the Canucks, they’ll look to improve on a power play that hasn’t exactly set the world on fire yet. Going 1/12 in three games, they’ll need results soon to keep the current unit intact. With Captain Bo Horvat now official, the Canucks can focus on playing for the W. Should be fun tonight, it always is against Philadelphia.

When you thump a team 8-2, you don’t change anything. Loui Eriksson remains in the press box for tonight’s game and everyone gets to keep their spot in the lineup for at least another night. J.T. Miller seems to have made quick friends on the top line while Micheal Ferland has already taken on more of an “energy” role.

Jacob Markstrom was otherworldly against the Kings and he’ll get another start.

Former Kelowna Rocket Carsen Twarnyski is up with the Flyers and although he only has two shots through two games, the Canucks may get a taste of what they’ll see in the future from the young star. Nolan Patrick is still out with concussion symptoms and is deemed week-to-week.

Carter Hart will get the nod this evening. Expect him to have a Vezina-nominated performance. Those Dub goalies, I’m tellin’ ya.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO

J.T. Miller is your clubhouse leader after three games this season with five points. Quinn Hughes, Tanner Pearson, and Brandon Sutter all sit second with three points. Exactly how you drew it up.
Alex Edler is already averaging over 25 minutes a game through three games this season. He’ll be relied upon heavily still but that number needs to drop if this team wants to be fresh come April. It’s been proven Edler can’t handle a full season with ice-time like that.
Number 57 for the Canucks is tied for 15th in CF% with 60. Tyler Myers has logged just a smidgen over 50 minutes through three games so far but he’s ahead in the shot war. Not saying, just saying.
Jacob Markstrom has been a hero so far. All the stories have been about Bo, or Petey, or Boeser, or heck even Sutter but Markstrom has low-key dominated and has kept the Canucks relevant at the beginning of the season instead of when they’re clawing back later in the season. Is it the lack of ears on his mask, just more confidence in himself, or is the threat of Thatcher Demko challenging him in a contract year all the motivation he needs?
What will Quinn Hughes do this evening? Will he dazzle? Will he score? Will there be a shift that we won’t be able to forget for a long time? He brings so many questions with him and yet the only answer he has given us and all we’ve needed is this – “Yes”.
