THE INTRO
Losing isn’t fun but if you’ve watched the Canucks since forever, you’re well aware of this already. Today, the Canucks will take on the New Jersey Devils in yet another matinee game against the team that beat them one month ago. It’s the second-ever meeting between brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes in the NHL so Canucks fans will be looking for Quinn to be the one that gets the goal that matters today.
Vancouver has lost three-straight ice hockey games which feels ultra weird after the run they went on. If we look back to previous seasons, this is just how the season goes for the boys in blue and green… and white.
It’s also Hockey Fights Cancer day for the Canucks so Vancouver will don their purple-themed warm-up jerseys prior to puck drop.

Adam Gaudette was the odd man out (bad move) instead of Loui Eriksson but that could change today. Expect to see Travis Green keep Sven Baertschi with Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen for at least another game or so. The Lotto Line will need another spark and if they can score even one goal they’ll eclipse their last meeting against New Jersey.
Quinn Hughes will face his younger brother Jack at the Rog so maybe the turn tables on this one?
Jacob Markstrom will look to avenge his loss against the Blackhawks when he starts today.

Connor Carrick broke his pinky and he’ll be out until December. The Devils were shutout against Edmonton a few nights ago despite having “good players” to win the hockey games. Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, and P.K. Subban couldn’t beat the Oilers. Maybe there’s hope for the Canucks boys?
Mackenzie Blackwood should be the starter today.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • One season ago on this day, the Canucks lost their first of eight, count ’em EIGHT straight games which also was their first losing streak of longer than two games. Vancouver is currently in the midst of their first three-game losing streak of the season so hopefully, they don’t match that dreadful run of a season ago.
  • Vancouver is not on the good side of the ledger against a number of NHL teams during their (r)ebuilding years. The Canucks currently have a 10-game losing streak against the Devils dating back to 2015. Yet another reason the Canucks need to get this thing turned around sooner than later. You still on #TeamPlayoffs ?
  • Elias Pettersson is slightly ahead of his pace from a season ago. Last year, Elias had 10 goals and 7 assists going into Nov 10; he’s at 6 goals and 15 assists currently. He also had only played 12 games at that point due to the injury he sustained against Florida. Safe to say Elias Pettersson will not slump this season.
  • New Jersey doesn’t have a single forward in the top-50 in scoring while the Canucks boast three players in the top-20 and four in the top-50. With all of the Devils’ moves, it’s hard to believe they haven’t made a splash. Jake Virtanen would be fourth in team scoring if he played for NJD. It makes you think.
  • Jacob Markstrom has managed to keep rebounds to a minimum this season. He has a 4.33% rebounds per save rating, which is 21st in the league for goalies playing five games minimum. Thatcher Demko is one position ahead of Markstrom at 4.18%. Mackenzie Blackwood is second in the NHL with 1.52%. Vancouver will have to make their shots count today because there won’t be much reflecting off of Blackwood’s pads.

This was a few days ago but man, this speaks volumes about Tanev
MY 94 CENTS
I just can’t see the Canucks losing four-straight games. They’ve shown they are resilient and have played a few stinkers. The schedule never works in Vancouver’s favour but it’s a home game so they should be able to draw off the crowd. A #TeamLikeThat has more to show than they have the last couple of games and a convincing win today will restore the faith in the bandwagoners. As for the hardcore fans, just show that the last week was a blip on the radar.
AND ANOTHER THING…
College is working out well for the Canucks
