We are back with another edition
of the Canucks Weekly Prospect Report, where I dig into all the latest stats,
rumours, gossip, news, achievements, and even made up stories from around the
different junior hockey leagues. We look into the play of all (non-AHL) Canucks prospects from the CHL, NCAA, Europe, and
even the ECHL.
Without further ado, continue
past the jump to see what went down!

  • Tenacious C Cole Cassels played in 2 games this week scoring 3 assists, earning a +2 and 2 PIMs.  Oshawa beat Peterborough in 5 games and will
now face the Niagara Ice Dogs in round 2.
  • Jared “it
is what it is” McCann played in 2 games with the Soo this week scoring 1
assist, earning a -1.  The Soo beat
Saginaw in 4 games and will now face the Guelph Storm in the second round.
  • Showtime Virtanen
scored 7 assists in 7 games this week, earning  a +4 and 10 PIMs.  Calgary beat Kootenay in 7 games and will
face the real good Medicine Hat Tigers in the second round.
  • Jordan
Subban scored 2 goals in 2 games this week but earned a -3 and 2 PIMs.  Belleville was eliminated from the OHL
    Playoffs and
Subban Signing Watch is now on.
Subban managed to score the last Belleville goal (and 3 of the 7 Bulls playoff goals) in the last Belleville
    game ever.
  • Evan
McEneny skated in 1 game this week and scored 1 assist.  Kingston was eliminated by North Bay and
McEneny is done in the OHL for good.  He
played in one AHL game last season so look for him to join the Comets.
  • Ashton
Sautner was a -2 in the last Edmonton Game of the year as they were eliminated
    by the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Sautner was signed to an AHL PTO and
will join the Utica Comets for the rest of the year
    .  Don’t
expect him to see much AHL ice time though.
  • In the one
North Bay game this week Miles Liberati earned 7 PIMs.  North Bay will face Barrie in the second
    round of the playoffs.
  • Kyle Pettit
has not yet returned from his injury.
Erie will face London in the second round of the playoffs for the right
to be beat down by the Soo.  He still has a cast on his hand.
  • Anton Cederholm
played in 3 games this week and earned a +3.
Portland will face Everett in the second round of the playoffs.

    As usual, our
    lovely Kwings Insiderrr
Sarah Hobday sent us scouting notes on Kalamazoo this week and
here’s what she had to say:
My thoughts/notes on the weekend games:
    • In Friday’s game the Canucks prospects were the only positive in this mostly poor team effort.
    • Lafranchise and Blain were paired on D and were only only on the ice
for 1 of Toledo’s 6 goals on Friday. They both played solid all weekend.
Though Blain was occasionally caught out of position.
    • Blomstrand and Fox scored in the 3rd period Friday as they both stepped up their game to try to spark the team to a comeback.
    • Blomstrand was targeted heavily by the Toledo defensemen on Friday to
limit his scoring chances. He remained smart and never retaliated on
cheap shots by the other team.
    • Fox played much
better this weekend then when I last saw him. I have really enjoyed
watching his growth as a player throughout this season.
    • I cannot say enough good things about Blomstrand. He had another great
game on Saturday and scored 2 more goals. He now has 33 goals for the
season – including 22 goals in his last 26 games. He is on the top power
      play and penalty kill units.
    • Kennedy was relatively quiet all weekend. Solid play but nothing stood out.
