I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little bummed my boy Nick Merkley was sent back to the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday from Coyotes camp; would have loved to see him play against the Canucks. However, there are other things worth watching this evening and no it’s not Derek Dorsett. Willie D may disagree.
Regardless, if the Canucks can afford to not make another ill timed line change, they might just win one of these exhibitions.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS PRESEASON GAME
  • Well it seems Tuomo Ruutu is trying to stick with the Canucks or at the very least an NHL roster. His goal last night was purdy and even though it didn’t remind me whatsoever of his less talented brother Jarkko, it did remind me of this song:
  • Anton Rodin made the most of his time with Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi and scored a nice feed from Bo. Coming off of surgery, this game gave me hope he could do some things if he stayed up. Another go round with that line might help his cause.
  • Brandon Sutter still hasn’t played and quite frankly I’m ok with that. Maybe Benning is plotting a trade, a trade that doesn’t involve extra picks going the other way. Anyways, Derek Dorsett has shown more impact than Sutter and that really should scare you.
  • Brendan Gaunce is going to be a real Canuck this year and going back to Ruutu, I think he is as well. The Canucks have been hit and miss with PTO’s but Tuomo seems to be getting the job done. As for Gaunce, what’s not to like? He’s out there making a difference and aside from some bad luck, he might be one of the shining lights in the preseason chandelier. That also might be one of my worst analogies.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
This preseason has kind of surprised me. We’ve been so used to basically no one cracking the lineup that hasn’t been here before. This season like last year and the year before has provided intrigue, surprise and worry (if you’re really concerned Virtanen isn’t ok). Seeing Gaunce, Ruutu, Rodin and the array of defenseman gives me hope. Not the playoff/Cup rush kind of hope but the hope that this team might just have figured enough out that the future will be ok.
Its also only Monday.
DO THE CANUCKS WIN?
Yes they do
