Canucks Army Postgame: That was Bo-dacious

By J.D. Burke
Jan 7, 2016, 01:22 ESTUpdated:
It was a night of firsts at Rogers Arena, as the Vancouver Canucks played host to the Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Arena. Front and centre in the minds of most Canucks fans was the return of Eddie Lack, who would be playing in Vancouver for the first time since being dealt this summer for a third round selection, which would later be used on Guillaume Brisebois. It was also the first TV appearance of Thomas Drance on the intermission panel with Sportsnet.
On the back of Bo Horvat’s two goals and Jacob Markstrom’s 25 saves, the Canucks were able to rally past the Hurricanes for the 3-2 victory. The teams traded barbs in the second and third periods, before a late delay of game penalty by Jaccob Slavin set the stage for Horvat’s game clinching, power play marker with 1:06 left in the game.

Quick Hits
- In essence, the Canucks have already won the trade that sent Lack to the Hurricanes. While Brisebois may not have an NHL game to his credit, he’s done less harm to the Canucks this season than Lack has the Hurricanes with his staggering .890 Sv%. In all seriousness, Lack’s turned a corner of late, returning to the blue paint, as was taught by Rollie Melanson during his time in Vancouver. Glad to see him getting more reps with the Canes.
- Didn’t expect Chris Higgins to sit in the press box. Especially if Jake Virtanen isn’t making his return to the Canucks lineup. Of course, one can’t help but wonder if this is another injury, but by all accounts, Higgins participated in full during the morning skate. Perhaps it really was a healthy scratch? Higgins hasn’t been great by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m hard pressed to believe he’s played any worse than Prust.
- The big news of the night was the injury to Jannik Hansen, suffered late in the second period – if memory serves. Hard to say what was bothering Hansen exactly. It was a little reminiscent of Ryan Kesler’s injury in the 2011 Western Conference Finals. Like, Hansen is just skating and then… boom, hurt. My money’s on his back, but what do I know? Hansen returned for the third period to test it out for a shift, but no dice. Poor Hansen looked like Bambi scrambling back to bench.
- To say Horvat’s been snakebitten this season is an understatement. Before last game, Horvat had gone 27 without a goal. That’s some kind of stretch. Similarly, Sven Baertschi has struggled much of this season to find consistency and good favour with Willie Desjardins. I wonder if this is all percentage related…

- So, this Daniel Sedin guy is pretty alright. Earlier today it was announced that Daniel will be representing the Canucks on Team Pacific Division at the all-star game, just a day after spitting out four teeth and potting a goal. Daniel’s boxcars were pedestrian, but that’s not to say he wasn’t contributing to the Canucks offence all the same. Daniel successfully entered the zone an eye-popping 13 times and did so with control on four occasions.
