Canucks Army Postgame: Jaw Dropping

Feb 28, 2016, 21:52 ESTUpdated:

Tonight, the Canucks met the San Jose Sharks for the first time this season. That’s wild! What a strange schedule. Amidst trade rumours, the Canucks were arguably more interesting off the ice than on it this evening.
The Canucks celebrated “Defense Never Rests” night as a part of the Rogers Arena 20th anniversary celebrations. Sami Salo and Ed Jovanovski returned for a ceremonial face-off. This was really nice but one can’t help but wonder why Mattias Ohlund wasn’t there as well.
THE GOALS
Daniel Sedin opened the scoring early in the second. It was the 350th of his career and far from his prettiest. It looked as if Dan Hamhuis (yes, he played in this game) might have scored his first of the season, but that would have been too much for everyone.
The Sharks scored twice early in the third, first as a result of a Sbisa Pizza:
Tomas Hertl put the Sharks ahead moments later.
With 6 minutes left in the third, Patrick Marleau scored on a two-man-advantage. Justin Braun added an empty netter after this, making the final score 4-1 for San Jose.
THE STATS

OTHER STUFF
- The fact that Dan Hamhuis played tonight was shocking. What if he had been hurt! You could hear fans cringe with every hit he took. Meanwhile, everyone briefly thought that Matt Bartkowski was scratched because he was about to get traded, but he just has the flu.
- With his assist on Daniel’s goal, Ben Hutton now has 18 points on the season. That’s two behind the fallen Alex Edler, meaning that Hutton could very well lead the backend in points come April. That’s pretty cool for Hutton.
