FLAMES LEAD SERIES 3-2
If you missed last game, or maybe your PVR ran out early and um, maybe your house burnt down, there’s a Game 6 to play tonight! The Canucks forced their way back into this series and it’s about to get good. Vancouver wasn’t lights out last game, but they controlled play, won the scoring chance battle, and came out on top.
Not allowing Michael Ferland to put his stamp on that game helped the Canucks play the way that makes them tough to beat. Henrik and Daniel Sedin were impressive, as was Bo Horvat, but the monkey on the back of Nick Bonino was the biggest and it’s gone. How sweet it will be to see yet another Game 7 in Vancouver!

LINEUPS

Ryan Miller had a pretty solid game on Thursday and aside from the first goal, he was perfect; he’ll start Game 6. Brad Richardson should be okay to go. There’s talk Ronalds Kenins may sit but honestly, who’s better than him that’s not playing? No recalls to report.
Jonas Hiller will start for the Flames as he should. No Mark Giordano again, but you knew that.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS PLAYOFF GAME

  • Oh I dunno, it’s Game 6 and the Canucks are still in it? After last game, the belief has to be there. Many counted the Canucks out; to a degree I didn’t know if they had any push back left. They did.
  • Michael Ferland is still being talked about by Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson so I’ll slide a mention in – he will most likely factor in this game but if the Canucks play the possession game he will be quiet, just like Thursday.
  • Being 18 years old is fun. In Calgary, you can drink legally, and for 18 year olds thats pretty awesome! Sam Bennett is a rookie forward for the Calgary Flames and he is 18. If you haven’t been reminded of this for the 300th time, you will be. Muting your TV and turning to Shorty on TSN 1040 is a good idea here. He couldn’t care less how old Bennett is, and you probably can’t either.
  • When given more ice time, the Sedins are good. In fact, they’re “really good.” They were given more responsibility last game and it’s almost like it was supposed to happen, they were two of the best players on the ice. Yell at the screen when you don’t see them on the ice. It’s therapeutic and it just might work. We’ll all do it so you don’t feel alone.
  • I don’t expect Nick Bonino to be a hero again, I don’t think he has it in him. His phone plan looks like it was renewed so the Boninophone will be making some calls, just don’t expect him to repeat. I have said this about Chris Higgins before and it seemed to work out ok for us. *wink wink*
  • Bo Horvat will FINALLY finish one of those end-to-enders and it will be glorious.
  • The Canucks are leading in many of the Corscient (is there a descriptive word for Corsi yet?) stats against the Flames and with this impressive knowledge now available, that should give you all belief this will work in Vancouver’s favour.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

MY TAKE

Game 5 was a success, as tonight’s game will be. It wouldn’t be a true Canucks/Flames series without Game 7 at home. A disciplined Canucks squad will be able to outplay the Flames in a 60 minute game. Executing is the hard part. Still have to believe in these goofs, it’s the Canucks; everyone hates ’em but us. Game 7 is Monday night. Canucks tie up the series tonight with a 3-2 victory.
