CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 8 – CANUCKS VS. REDWINGS (HNIC)

By Always90four
Oct 24, 2015, 15:00 EDTUpdated:
Something has to give tonight; the Canucks and Redwings face off at the Rog tonight and believe it or not, neither team has won in 3 games (actually for DET its 4). To make things worse for the Canucks, they haven’t even won a home game this year. Before we play a game of stick and puck though, our Captain Henrik Sedin will be playing in his 1100th game! Hokey Dyna! In typical Sedin fashion, Daniel will try to outshine him which should bode well for the Canucks.

LINEUPS
Willie Desjardins is FINALLY adjusting his lineup to what obviously makes more sense by starting Yannick Weber on the back end. Vancouver’s PP is a hot mess right now and an instant boost was needed. Weber can boom it from the blue line and that usually means the man advantage ends earlier. Vrby is back with Henrik and Daniel. Derek Dorsett is questionable after missing practice yesterday.
Ryan Miller will start. Pretend that you’re surprised.

A few faces won’t be in the lineup for various reasons: Pavel Datsyuk (ankle surgery), Johan Franzen (concussion) and on the bench Mike Babcock (more money on a terrible team). However, the youth movement isn’t only happening in Vancouver; Detroit has young upstarts Landon Ferraro and Dylan Larkin in the mix and they don’t look out of place. Brad Richards and Mike Green are new to Detroit as well so it won’t be the same Red Wings we knew.
Petr Mrazek gets the start for Detroit.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS GAME
- As I said above, Henrik Sedin is playing in his 1100th game! Is that a reason to watch? YES, yes it is. Don’t be a jerk and switch the channel after the pregame congrats.
- Yannick Weber is back in the lineup which means loads of power play goals, less broken sticks for Alex Edler and somehow Ben Hutton will benefit. I’ll google how.
- This could be one of those keys to the game the announcers always talk about, but Petr Mrazek has let in 3 goals in his last 3 starts. The Canucks would be wise to score 3 and maybe that will be enough? Detroit also played last night in Calgary and lost 3-2 in OT. Ripe for the picking.
- Down the stretch the last game, Willie D fed Dorsett and Prust some big minutes which left the young kids watching and learning. Holding a lead would cause you to do that but the energy the likes of Horvat, McCann and Virtanen have brought could be used a tiny bit better. It’s early and they need to learn, but they need to be thrown in the fire to handle the heat. WHAT AN ANALOGY!!!
- Somehow Brandon Sutter leads the team in points so maybe they keep him rolling? Burrows and Hansen wouldn’t mind benefiting from that I’m sure.
- The fans love affair with Ben Hutton continues to grow. #Huttonmania is sweeping the nation and its only a matter of time before he gets his own street, craft beer and Sportsnet commercial. Speaking of…this is good:
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
MY TAKE
I predicted an OT loss last game and no one showed up to my door to take me away in a black car. Things are different tonight as I am laying the hammer down on the Canucks winning 4-1. Daniel Sedin pots a pair, Ben Hutton gets a clapper and if I have to put out a #boldprediction , Jake Virtanen gets his 1st…if he’s not stapled to the bench in the 3rd.
