CANUCKS ARMY GDT# 43 – CANUCKS VS. PANTHERS

By Always90four
Jan 11, 2016, 15:00 ESTUpdated:

Florida Panthers, step on up! Looks like you got yourselves a 12 game winning streak right there in front of yeah? Surely you know what happens when streaks come to town? They end. They stop cold… ok, except Patrick Kane’s, but lets be real… he was gonna keep going anyways. Alex Burrows was a streak stopper against the Carolina Hurricanes a long time ago and even though the #FancyCats have Roberto “Vezina” Luongo, this one’s ova!
We aren’t going to win a tonne more this season, but tonight ain’t your night kitties. Might wanna clean that litter box cause you’re in for a stinker. (On your side obviously, but that was the tough guy rant. We will beat you, okay?)
BROADCAST INFO
TV: SNET-P
RADIO: TSN 1040
PUCK DROP: 7:10 PM (its never 7 so lets get technical)
LINE COMBOS
Emerson Etem makes his debut tonight alongside Linden Vey and Jake Virtanen. McCann will sit this one out, unless there is a late sub. Speaking of, it sounds like Luca Sbisa and Brandon Sutter will be coming on the road trip. Aw crap, things are getting better aren’t they?
Jacob Markstrom will start because Stone Cold said so.

To say the Panthers have done well lately would be a massive understatement, but then you find out they beat the Edmonton Oilers last night with 14 shots? Get outta here! At 88 years old (not his real age) Jaromir Jagr is moonlighting as his younger self and leads the Cats with 31 points. Willie Mitchell is still hanging around and although he narrowly missed being named an All-Star this season, Dave Bolland will not play… because he’s not quite good at this hockey thing.
Roberto Luongo will start. He’s been ok.

REASONS TO WATCH THIS EPIC SHOWDOWN
- The Panthers have won 12 straight; the whole NHL will be watching this one. On the odd chance that Vancouver fulfills their destiny as spoilers, this could be fun..
- Once again, I make you aware of how great that Bo/Bae line is: Their combined 5v5 PDO is 100.4 and they have a CF% of 51, amazing! Focusing on Bo, I could go with the ever popular last five game stat but in his last three, Horvat has 4G and 1A, 2 PPG and a 49.9 FOW%. BoHo’s #fancystats are climbing but man oh man, he’s fun to watch!
- It’s a shame we ragged on one of the best players we ever had. Seeing Luongo wearing anything but a Canucks jersey feels wrong after all he gave this city and franchise. There will be a lot of pride on the line tonight, but secretly I hope we do see some of the old Luongo… the good one anyways.
- Ben Hutton is due, no? Really feel like he’s close to something big. A defenseman having a good game against Lu would be nice – a rookie no less, would be better. Hutton has some OK stats when the Canucks are down a goal – 3A, a CF% of 50 and his PDO is 100.8. I’m new to all this so zone entries and the like… that you can get from the boss. You’ve all heard of the #jefflercurse by now, but I feel like I’m right on the Hutton thing.
- By puck drop, maybe they’ve traded Higgins and we get to see Hunter Shinkaruk or Brendan Gaunce called up for good. That could happen, right? At the very least, we know the end is near for Higgy. Good guy, times are changing, though.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Enjoy that.
MY TAKE
Okay, Vancouver lost in OT to the Lightning – I might’ve called it. The Panthers have been playing lights out for some time now but like I said above, the… streak… is… over. I will assume Luongo will let in something iffy tonight like normal and he’ll get a good taste of Horvat and his sidekick Sven Baertschi. Welcome back Bobby Lu, we miss ya!
