Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – March 3rd, 2016
alt
Mar 3, 2016, 14:00 ESTUpdated:
The NHL Trading Deadline has passed and the Canucks didn’t make any more trades – which means that all their prospects can focus on finishing their seasons instead of ignoring calls from the ‘604’.
The NCAA playoffs get underway this weekend, the KHL playoffs are finishing up the first round and the last ditch effort of CHL teams to secure a playoff spot is on!
There is also the Utica Comets, who look poised to make the AHL playoffs again this year. Unfortunately they are going to be shorthanded with players getting a look in the NHL
With so much going on, let’s take a look at all the Canucks prospects in this week’s edition of Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report.

  • Dmitry Zhukenov was held pointless in all three games this week – he finished the week -2. He was fantastic in the face-off circle, going 80%, 55.4%, 80% in the three games. That’s impressive given that the thing he needed to work on is his strength, which isn’t the only part of face-offs but does play into it.
  • Carl Neill played two games this week and finished with 1 assist – he also had 2 PIM and 6 SOG. SJS pick and normal partner Jeremy Roy did miss both games this week.
  • Tate Olson played four games this week – he was held pointless
  • Kyle Pettit played three games this week – he was held pointless, had 6 SOG and was +1. I would expect a lengthy playoff run from the Erie Otters.
  • Guillaume Brisebois was also held to zero points this week – he had 2 PIM and 6 SOG
  • Mackenze Stewart played four games this week – he had one assist, 6 PIM and was +1.

  • Brock Boeser scored on Friday night and again on Saturday night. His 22nd goal of the season is the most by a UND rookie since TJ Oshie scored 24 and Toews scored 22 in 2005-06.
  • Gaudette played two games this past weekend – he two goals and one assist. Gaudette has 20 points in his last 16 games. He only had 5 in the first 18 games of the season. Northeastern University is 12-1-2 since January 1, with their only loss coming against Boston University in the Beanpot Semi-Final.

  • Rodin is still injured – no further details are available.
  • Nikita Tryamkin’s season is over as his team, Avtomobilist was eliminated in the first round of the KHL playoffs. He had one assist in 6 playoff games. Let the speculation of him coming over to North America begin.
  • It appears that Lukas Jasek played one game in the second division of the Extraliga this week – he was held pointless.

  • With Shinkaruk traded, and Brendan Gaunce being recalled to the Canucks this past week – Alex Grenier  now leads the Comets in points and Mike Zalewski leads in goals with 13.
  • Blair Jones, Jon Landry and Wacey Hamilton are currently injured
  • Brandon Marino and Gregor Hanson were signed to PTO’s this week.
  • Brendan Gaunce was recalled this past week.
  • Linden Vey, Yannick Weber and Alex Biega are still up with the Canucks. (I don’t expect any of them to be back)
