Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – January 28, 2016

Jan 28, 2016, 14:31 ESTUpdated:
Another week has passed in the whacky world of Canucks prospects. Many players returned from injury – others got injured. Hunter Shinkaruk will represent the Comets and Canucks at the AHL All-Star Game this week and the CHL/NHL Top Prospect game is tonight!
So there is a lot going on this week, and you’ve come to the one place with all the Canucks prospects information you need!
Let’s break it all down in this week’s edition of Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report.

- Carl Neill led the charge for Carl Neill this week with 2 assists in two games. He also had 4 PIM, was +3 and had 1 SOG. Most importantly, Neill is back to playing with San Jose 2nd round pick Jeremy Roy. This bodes well for his continued offensive output.
- Dmitry Zhukenov played two games this week and was held off the scoresheet in both. He was -1 with 2 SOG combined. He was exactly 50% in the face-off circle.
- Prince George was busy this week playing three games in four nights. Olson was held to one assist, -1 and 4 PIM. Regardless of what happens, Olson has shattered expectations this season.
- Kyle Pettit played one game this week where he put one assist, +1 and 1 SOG. I hate to say it, but I am a firm believer that Pettit won’t be worth a contract at the end of the year. Although, they did sign MacKenze Stewart last year, so I could be wrong on this one.
- Guillaume Brisebois returned to action this week, posting one assist in two games. It was finally revealed that he was suffering from a concussion, but appears to be all good!
- Mackenze Stewart played two games this week and finished with 5 PIM

- Brock Boeser pushed his point streak to 13 games with an assist on Friday night, but ultimately it ended on Saturday. His goal scoring streak also ended on Friday night. Both of Boeser’s regular linemates (Schmaltz and Caggiula) have been injured and aren’t expected back this weekend.
- Adam Gaudette pushed his point streak to 7 games with points in consecutive games this weekend. He had two assists in Friday’s contest, and then one assist on Saturday.

- Thatcher Demko posted his 7th shutout of the season this past weekend, and then followed that up with a tie on Saturday night. I wrote a long post on why I think the Canucks are going to try and sign Demko this summer. This suspicion was confirmed by Jason Botchford in the Provies.

- Rodin is injured. Botchford confirmed in the aforementioned Provies that the Canucks have interest in bringing Rodin over next year.
- Nikita Tryamkin returned to action yesterday for Avtomobilist. He was held off the scoresheet in just under 20 minutes of ice time. Unfortunately, my Russian isn’t very good, so still unable to determine what ailed him.
- Lukas Jasek is one hard player to keep track of. He was in the U21 Czech junior league to start the week, where he scored 4 goals in 2 games. He then returned to the Extraliga for the 24th, played second line minutes but then was a healthy scratch for their next game. He may have been loaned to the tier 2 league yesterday, but not confirmed. So, at least, he is playing games…?

- Hunter Shinkaruk, Brendan Gaunce and Jordan Subban currently lead the offence. Which is a great sign for Canucks fans.
- Higgins made his Utica Comets debut this weekend, where he posted one assist in two games.
- Blair Jones and Ronalds Kenins are currently injured.
- Mike Zalewski was returned to Utica this week, while Mike Pereira was released from his PTO.
- Linden Vey and Alex Biega are still up with the Canucks. Vey would now need to clear waivers to be re-assigned, so I would expect him to remain in Vancouver for the duration of this season.
- As always, here is Jeremy Davis’s in-depth look at Utica’s last week.

- Curtis Valk had 1 assist in 2 games.
- Anton Cederholm had an assist this week!

- To no ones surprise, Witt didn’t play any games this week.
Schedule

Anton Rodin has been removed from the schedule, as he will be out long-term. Lukas Jasek is not included, as I have no idea what team he will be on on any given day.
That’s it for this week!
