Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – February 11, 2016
alt
Feb 11, 2016, 20:17 ESTUpdated:
Another week has passed in the hockey world. For the Canucks specifically, prospect Thatcher Demko leads the Hobey Baker fan vote by a sizeable margin and set a new record, a few players are still injured and we had some recalls to the NHL due to injury.
Like the people in line at Whistler-Blackcomb this past weekend, I know you have been waiting long time, so let’s break it all down in this week’s edition of Blackfish: Canucks Army Prospect Report.
With Dion Phanuef being traded this week, Elisha Cuthbert gets the spotlight in the obligatory gif from ‘Happy Endings’

  • Dmitry Zhukenov played two games this week – he finished with 1 assists, -2 and  PIM
  • Carl Neill’s really having a rough go for Carl Neill recently – 2 games, 0 points, 4 SOG. Not very Carl Neill like from earlier this year.
  • Tate Olson probably texting Carl Neill with ‘See ya’, as he passes Neill in points- He put 1 goal and 2 assists (all  in one game) in 2 games this week. He also had 6 PIM and finished -3.
  • Kyle Pettit is currently out with an upper-body injury and listed as week to week.
  • Guillaume Brisebois played one game this week – where he had 3 SOG, and nothing else.
  • Mackenze Stewart played three games this week – he had 16 PIM and 1 assist.

  • Brock Boeser had the week off from NCAA action – UND didn’t play any games, but seemed to be have a ‘team building experience’ with outdoor practice. I wrote earlier this week about Boeser’s season so far.
  • After being held pointless last week, Gaudette rebounded nicely with 2G and 1A in two games this week. All of his points came against Harvard in the Beanpot consolation game. He had 8 SOG combined in the two games.

  • Thatcher Demko posted his 9th shutout of the season in the Beanpot final. Not only did Boston College win the Beanpot tournament, Demko is now the Boston College record holder for most shutouts in a single season passing Cory Schneider. In case you missed it, I talked a little more in depth about his record setting win and his season so far.
  • I mentioned off the top, Demko is leading the fan vote but don’t stop voting: You can vote daily for Thatcher Demko in the Hobey Baker fan vote here.

  • Rodin is still injured.
  • Nikita Tryamkin played one game this week – he was +1 in 17:55 of ice time. If I am reading the KHL playoff structure correctly Tryamkin’s team, Avtomobilist, has qualified for the playoffs with two games left in the season. So his possible move over to North America will likely be delayed for another 2+ weeks.
  • Lukas Jasek played one game this week for Trinec U21 team where he put up 1 goal and 1 assist. Doesn’t appear he played anywhere else this week.

  • The Comets continue to be led by Hunter Shinkaruk, Jordan Subban and Brendan Gaunce. So that’s cool.
  • Brandon Prust still hasn’t seen any game action – but it appears he is now in Utica and may be in the lineup for tomorrow or Saturday’s game. (Edit: According to Ben Birnell from Utica OD says that Prust likely won’t be in the lineup this weekend)
  • Alex Friesen and Yannick Weber (after clearing waivers earlier) have been recalled to the Canucks due to the injuries of Brandon Sutter and Alex Edler.
  • Linden Vey and Alex Biega are still up with the Canucks.
  • As always, my boy Jeremy Davis has a much more in depth look at the Comets week here.

  • Dane Fox’s week in three games: 3 assists, 5 SOG, 9 PIM, and -/+0
  • Ludwig Blomstrand had 2 goal and 3 assists in the three games this week. He had 9 SOG and +1.
  • Curtis Valk put up a hat trick on Friday night but was held pointless in both other games this week. He finishes the week with 6 SOG and +1.
  • Anton Cederholm played all three games this week, he finished +3 and with 2 SOG.
  • Even McEneny was +5, had 5 SOG and 1 assist in the three games this week.
  • Earlier this week, Sarah Hobday was back with A Kzoo Look.

  • Once again, Clay Witt didn’t see any game action. Still firmly believe the Canucks organization would’ve been better off giving an AHL contract to Kelowna Rockets goalie Jackson Whistle (the other development camp invite) over Witt.

Schedule

Once again, Anton Rodin has been removed from the schedule, as he will be out long-term. Kyle Pettit was excluded as he is currently ‘week to week’ with an injury. Lukas Jasek is not included, as it’s unclear which league he will be in.
Have a good one!
