Games to Watch

  • Monday, 4:00pm PST – CHL Top Prospects Game and AHL All-Star Game
Two of the most interesting games of the week to watch will go down tonight, with both the CHL Top Prospects game and the AHL All-Star game scheduled to start at 4:00pm. Both are televised: you can see the CHL Top Prospects game on Sportsnet Pacific and the AHL All-Star Game on Sportsnet One.
The Top Prospects game contains 40 draft eligible prospects from across the CHL, including 19 players from the OHL, 15 from the WHL, and six from the QMJHL. Top prospects Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier will captain the two teams. You can see the rosters for both teams here.
As an important side note, the CHL has announced that it will proceed with the game despite the tragic shooting that took place yesterday in a Quebec mosque.
As for the AHL All-Star game, it could be worth watching just to keep tabs on Jordan Subban and Alex Grenier, the two Comets representatives. Like the NHL All-Star game, it will follow a 3-on-3 tournament format, with Subban and Grenier playing for the North Division.
  • Wednesday, 7:05pm PST: Jakob Stukel and the Calgary Hitmen visit the BC Interior to take on the Kelowna Rockets. The Rockets are traditionally a factory for future NHL defencemen and this year looks to be no different, with Callan Foote projected to go in the middle of the first round. Their leading scorer, Kole Lind, is also draft eligible. He’s currently ranked in the mid-to-late second round, but with 58 points in 48 games, he may start rising further up the rankings.
  • Friday, 4:00pm PST: Brett McKenzie and the North Bay Battalion visit Mississauga to take on the Steelheads, one of the most impressive CHL franchises in terms of producing multiple top tier prospects in recent years. This year they have Owen Tippett and Nic Hague, who could both be off the board by the halfway point of the first round. Ryan McLeod, a top pick in 2018, is also there, playing with his brother, Mike McLeod and Nathan Bastian, both high picks in 2016.
  • Sunday, 11:00am PST: We have an interprospect battle on Sunday morning, when Rodrigo Abols and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan travel to Prince Edward Island to take on Guillaume Brisebois, Carl Neill and the Charlottetown Islanders. Both teams also have draft eligible prospects to watch, with centre Antoine Morand on the Titan, and defenceman Pierre-Olivier Joseph on the Islanders. Both are projected to be taken in the second round in 2017.
