On Friday’s episode of Canucks Conversation, Harman Dayal and Chris Faber broke down all the latest surrounding the Vancouver Canucks.
This included newly-minted head coach Rick Tocchet, and more specifically, what the Canucks’ new bench boss needs to do in order to be successful. One of the things Harman mentioned was what he would like to see Tocchet get out of JT Miller over his tenure with Vancouver.
“If he can find a way to make JT Miller viable as a legit top six centre, get it back to the point where he’s competent there, where he isn’t a defensive liability, where he’s still driving 70-75 points at that pace, you get the five on five offence back. That would be huge for this team,” said Dayal.
“Because then all of a sudden, there’s your in-house replacement for Bo. There’s a huge weight off your shoulders because again, trying to find top six centres is like trying to find top pair defencemen. Good luck if you don’t draft and develop them yourself. It’s difficult. It’s not easy, so that would be monumental. If you can create this culture of accountability, clean up these moments where you get the bad back check, fix the puck management, clean that up. Get it back going to where he’s a 70-75 point guy — I don’t need him to be a 99 point, whatever he was last season — but if he can get JT Miller to be 80 to 90% of what he was last season, that would be a huge win for Tocchet.”
