The good times continue to roll for Lucas Forsell.
After finishing up the SHL regular season on a burner, the 19-year-old Vancouver Canucks draft pick lit it up in the opening game of the SHL playoffs.
Forsell scored two goals and added an assist in a 3-2 win for his Färjestad team over rival Frölunda.
It didn’t take long for Forsell to get into the action, scoring less than three minutes into his first SHL playoff game.
And yes, you can spot another Canucks prospect in this clip. We will get to him later.
Forsell ended up scoring the game-winning goal early in the third period.
Both goals are products of being rewarded for going to the net hard. It’s something Forsell has done all season long even though he is still slight and has a lot of room to grow. The kid is very talented with the puck but has made a habit of working in the dirty areas and improving his play on the boards and around the crease. It’s something he has talked about working with Canucks development coach Mikael Samuelsson in their meetings together.
We mentioned another Canucks prospect earlier, that prospect is right-shot defenceman Filip Johansson.
Johansson and Forsell have a relationship that goes back to playing mini-sticks when they were children. Forsell was best friends with Johansson’s younger brother Ludvig, who is a goalie.

It was a quiet game for Johansson, who played 17:27 and finished even on his plus/minus on the day. Johansson had one shot on net in the game and was on the ice for Forsell’s first goal.
Forsell finished the game with 14:49 of ice time, two goals, one assist, and three shots on net. He was a plus-two on the day and was the player of the game as the SHL playoffs kicked off.
Another Canucks prospect who was in action for the SHL playoffs was left-shot defenceman Elias Pettersson.
Pettersson was sturdy in a 4-1 win for Örebro. He played 14 minutes flat and had one shot on net.
In case you missed it, we had a great chat with Lucas Forsell at the beginning of the month.
