Vancouver Canucks draft Jonathan Lekkerimaki at 15th overall

With the 15th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, the Vancouver Canucks have selected Jonathan Lekkerimaki.
The Canucks had their choice between Lekkerimaki — who ranked in the top ten on most draft boards — Noah Ostlund, and big winger Liam Ohren when they took to the stage in Montreal.
The Winnipeg Jets went a bit off the board in selecting Rutger McGroarty at 14th overall, giving the Canucks their choice of three talented Swedish wingers.
Lekkerimaki won a bronze medal with Sweden at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and wears number 40 because of Elias Pettersson.
Here’s what our draft expert Chris Faber had to say about Lekkerimaki’s game:
Possessing one of the best shots in the 2022 draft class, Jonathan Lekkerimaki saw his stock rise a ton after putting up 15 points in six games at the U18s…Lekkerimaki shines when he plays with players his age and it should be noted that his SHL team was one of the worst in the league this past season. Lekkerimaki has a tremendous shot and the scouts do love what he can do with the puck on a power play. We will have to see where he falls in the draft but after making a push for the top-10, he is now slotting in the 12-18 range. This could be a player who catches the Canucks’ eye but could also be a nice target for a team to trade up to the Canucks’ 15th overall if he is available.
Faber is at the draft in Montreal right now and is pushing his way through the crowds to go talk to Patrik Allvin about this pick as we speak.
We’ll have full coverage and a full scouting report on Lekkerimaki up tomorrow morning at 6 AM.
