Vancouver Canucks draft Jackson Kunz and Jacob Truscott in rounds 4 and 5 of 2020 NHL draft

3 years agoThe Canucks did not have a first or second round pick in this year’s draft but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get excited about the players that they did draft.
If you haven’t read about the Canucks’ first pick, Joni Jarmo, you can do so here. Here’s who they selected in rounds four and five.
4th Round: Jackson Kunz
The Canucks went with a high school player out of North Dakota with their second selection in the draft. Jackson Kunz is a big left-shot winger who scored 40 goals in 45 games this past year with Shattuck St. Mary’s in the USHS-prep league. Kunz is a multi-sport athlete who comes in at 6’3″ and is already over 200 pounds.
His hand-eye is excellent, and his balance in front of the net is so strong. Kunz really shows an understanding of his game and where he needs to go to be successful. His passing ability is evident. Kunz’s willingness to get to high danger areas makes him so dangerous. His shot is heavy, and he possesses a quick release.-EliteProspects
He will be playing in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers this coming season and will report to the University of North Dakota in the fall of 2021.
5th Round: Jacob Truscott
The Canucks went back to the defenceman well when they selected Jacob Truscott with their fifth round selection. Truscott is a left handed defenceman who will be attending the University of Michigan this fall.
He scored five goals and had 16 assists in 47 games with the United States National Team Development Program last season.
Scouts say that Truscott’s biggest strength is his vision and passing ability. He was ranked 67th on TSN’s draft board.
Truscott uses great edge work and mobility to find great passing options and exits from his own end of the ice. One can take solace in the fact that Truscott is a technically skilled passer who can thread the needle in all three zones — even if he doesn’t leverage that often enough to be an impact player, proof of concept exists.
Looks to be a nice late round snag for the Canucks.
