A lower body injury will keep Canucks defenceman Carson Soucy out of the lineup for six to eight weeks, the club announced Wednesday.
Soucy, 29, left a Sunday game against the Montreal Canadiens after blocking a shot in the second period.
He had played 8:26 in the game, one that saw the Canucks win 5-2. As seen in the clip above, Tyler Myers was also shaken up, however, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchett said Tuesday he believes Myers will be okay.
“It kind of sucks (for Soucy) because I thought his game the last three or four games he and Mysie had been coming together as a really good pair for us,” Tocchette said Tuesday. “It sucks, but over 82 games you’re going to get injuries and we’ve been fortunate with the injury bug and that’s where the depth has to come. That’s where Abbotsford comes into play.”
The club has since recalled Akito Hirose, who slotted in on the third pairing alongside Mark Friedman.
Soucy also missed some time in the final pre-season this year, missing the first two games of the season.
In his first season of a three-year deal, Soucy has appeared in 13 games, scoring two goals and three assists. According to hockeyviz.com, at even-strength, he’s provided defence at a one percent rate above league average, and offence at a four percent rate below league average. His value on the penalty kill, meanwhile, is three percent above league average.
