The Vancouver Canucks have officially assembled their 2024 NHL Entry Draft class.
With their final pick at 221 overall, the Canucks selected Swiss left-shot defenceman Basile Sansonnens.
There’s not much info out there about Sansonnens, a 6’4 rearguard who spend last season with Gotteron of the U20 Swiss league. There, he tallied a goal and two assists through 40 games played. He recorded one goal and three assists through nine playoff games.
Here’s what draft analyst Daniel Gee noted about Bassonens on Twitter: Young for the draft (late August B-day), Sansonnens played four games in the National League this season– the top-tier league in the Swiss league system.
To recap, the Canucks selected high-scoring Swedish winger Melvin Fernstrom at 93rd overall; OHL centre Riley Patterson at 125th; OHL goal-scoring leader Anthony Romani at 162nd, local product and shutdown right-shot defenceman Parker Alcos at 189th overall, and finally, Sansonnens.
