The Vancouver Canucks made a monumental announcement today, April 1st, 2023.
The team will be moving all Canucks Sports and Entertainment business operations from Rogers Arena to North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex, just a six minute walk from Scott Road Station.
“Guildford Mall is one of my favourite malls,” said team mascot Fin in a rare media availability, speaking on behalf of the organization. “But Central City Shopping Centre is great too, and our new arena’s proximity to both malls is something I’m excited about. Tinseltown just doesn’t do it for me anymore.”
The team is also rumoured to be in agreement with the city to build their long awaited practice rink at the soon to be upgraded Bear Creek Athletics Centre.
“This will be great for attracting free agents,” added Fin. “It’s also just a six minute walk from Scott Road station, so if you think about it, it’s like the team isn’t even moving. Taking the skytrain to games is half the experience, and that experience is going to be alive and well with this switch. I’m going to miss my friends at the Vancouver Aquarium, but I’m very excited about this switch. I’m also going to miss the proximity to Costco, but I’m sure I’ll get over it. This also gets us even closer to Abbotsford, which is going to be great for the organization.”
The team will begin playing games at North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex effective immediately, in a truly shocking move given the club’s recent 10-year agreement with Rogers for the telecoms giant to keep the arena naming rights through the 2032-33 season.
Wait, what’s the date today? Did somebody send us a fake news release?
Happy April Fools’ Day from all of us at CanucksArmy!
