Center John Stevens Acquired For Future Considerations
alt
Well, folks… we’ve been asking for it all season and the team has finally answered our call for the addition of another pivot. The Utica Comets announced today that they have acquired center John Stevens for the price of future considerations. Time will tell as far as what those future considerations end up being, but unless it ends up being fellow pivot Carter Camper heading the other way at some point, (it won’t) then I think the Comets did alright here.
Stevens is the son of former Philadelphia Flyers and LA Kings Head Coach of the same name. The senior Stevens also coached the team from Lehigh Valley that the Comets will square off against today.
The junior Stevens played with Adam Gaudette at Northeastern before landing an AHL deal with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Elite Prospects has Stevens listed at 6’2″ and tipping the scales at 205lbs. The product of Sea Isle City New Jersey turned 25-years-old in April.
Stevens has had injury issues in his three-plus seasons with Bridgeport, suiting up in just 117 games while putting up 13 goals and 19 helpers to give himself 32 points for his efforts. He put up 106 points over 138 NCAA games with Northeastern.
I haven’t seen him play a ton, but from what I have seen, the Comets will be getting a player with decent size, good hockey sense, and a solid defensive game. He might not help the team pile up points, but as he hasn’t yet played enough games to give him veteran/veteran exempt status, he won’t give them issues on that side of things.
The Comets are back in action today at 7:00 pm Eastern/4:00 pm Pacific when they welcome the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to town for game 38 of the season. As Always, CanucksArmy will have you pre-game reading up by noon. Stay tuned for our post-game report following today’s action.
