It looks like the Utica Comets have signed another forward to a PTO, (professional try-out), as Ben Birnell of the Utica Observer-Dispatch tweeted out this morning.
Leitner is an undrafted, 27-year-old, 5’9″, 175lbs forward. He has spent from the 2015/16 season until now bouncing back and forth between the AHL and the ECHL with a couple of teams. In the 2015/16 season alone, he played for three teams, the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL, along with the Milwaukee Admirals and Ontario Reign of the AHL. Since then, he has spent his time plying his trade between the Monarchs and the Springfield Thunderbirds.
In his 33 career AHL games, Leitner has put up zero goals and nine assists to give him nine points to go along with 10 minutes spent in the penalty box. This season, he has played with the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL, where he has put up nine goals and 26 assists to give him 35 points in 42 games. If you have been following along this season, you will know that the Comets have also plucked current Comets forwards Tony Cameranesi and more recently Zac Lynch from the Monarchs. Maybe Trent Cull will use the trio as a line this weekend.
The Comets are back on the ice tomorrow, (Friday, March 9th), at 4:00 pm Pacific when the Syracuse Crunch are back in town. The home team is on a six-game losing skid and there would be no better time to break that skid than tomorrow against the rival Crunch. As always, CanucksArmy will have your post-game report following the game.
