Utica Comets Reveal New Third Jerseys, Canucks Release Blain

Do you ever wonder what the Vancouver Canucks would look like if they wore green jerseys? Well, you’ll have to keep waiting, but the Utica Comets gave a bit of a teaser as to what such a design would look like, revealing their third jerseys for next season.
The new jersey comes with a new alternate logo that is distinctly more “Canucky”; switching from a shield behind the comet to a U; one that’s pointed in the bottom to give a slight hint of a V, and can easily be rotated into a C; vaguely like the “stick in the rink” logo the Canucks began their history with. That stick in the rink logo, by the way, will feature on the shoulders of this new design, along with on the blue pants that match it.
The design makes you if the Canucks can pull off something similar – perhaps using the “V” variant of the Johnny Canuck logo. Though, if they were to go this route, I’d prefer it without the white shoulder yoke. The Comets haven’t released a schedule for usage of the jersey, though if they’re like most AHL teams, it will likely be used for Sunday home games.

Keeping with Canucks and Comets news, the team has terminated Jérémie Blain’s final year of his entry level contract in order to allow him to sign with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. Blain, who the Canucks signed in 2013/14 following a 2012 appearance at Development Camp, played just twenty games with Utica over the past two years, putting up four points.
The Wolves will likely use him as a depth defenceman who will continue to spend a lot of time in the ECHL. The move leaves the Canucks with an additional available SPC, in the event that they would like to sign somebody else to a 1 or 2-way NHL contract.
Blain was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers.
