The Vancouver Canucks and Utica Comets have both been bitten hard by the injury bug already in their respective seasons. Today the Canucks announced the recalls of defencemen Alex Biega and Guillaume Brisebois. Congrats, Guillaume!
With Brisebois and Biega out of the picture, for the time being, the Comets announced a recall of their own.
The Comets signed 25-year-old Jagger Dirk to an AHL deal this offseason after he put up a career-high 28 points in 30 games with St. Francis Xavier University. It has been a long road for Dirk to earn his first pro deal and he is off to a nice start with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL.
Through three games, Dirk has one goal and two penalty minutes with the Wings. Dirk spent seven games with the Binghamton Devils at the end of last season on a tryout deal, putting up one assist and two penalty minutes along the way.
The six-foot, 198-pound, left shot defender can play either side of the ice for Trent Cull, should he elect to use him during his recall. Dirk is a smooth skater who prides himself on looking after his own end but has the ability to find a seam and jump into the rush when the opportunity arises.
Sarah Hobday had the opportunity to see Dirk’s first game with the Wings, so I reached out to her for her thoughts on what she saw.
His goal early in that game happened so fast I didn’t even see it coming. He was just solid all around. Nothing stuck out as bad or being out of position. He was definitely the best defenseman out there for Kzoo that night.
The Comets are back on the ice tomorrow, Friday, October 26th at 4:05 pm Pacific when they hit the road to Rochester to take on the Americans. CanucksArmy will have your post-game report following the game.
