The Utica Comets announced today that they have signed forward Dylan Sadowy to a one-year AHL deal.
The 6’1″, 205lbs native of Brampton Ontario is 23-years-old, shoots left and can play either wing. He was drafted in the third round of the 2014 draft, 81st overall by the San Jose Sharks. He joins Nikolay Goldobin, (Jannik Hansen deal) Linus Karlsson, (Jonathan Dahlen trade) and Francis Perron, (draft day pick swap) as former members of the Sharks system who have been acquired by the Canucks/Comets over the past couple of years.
Sadowy never played for the Sharks as he was dealt to the Detroit Red Wings in a trade on May 26th, 2016 that saw the Sharks land a conditional third-round pick in return.
The forward spent four seasons in the OHL, the bulk of which with the Saginaw Spirit before being moved to the Barrie Colts part-way through his final season. He managed to put up 116 goals and 72 assists in his 258 OHL contests to give himself 188 points, or 0.73 points per game.
Since wrapping up his OHL career, Sadowy has played in 65 AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, putting up five goals and two helpers to give himself seven points, or 0.11 points per game at the AHL level. He has also suited up for 88 games in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye where he has been a scoring machine, putting up 36 goals and 43 assists to give himself 79 points, or 0.90 points per game.
This should be seen as another depth signing for the Comets and I expect Sadowy to spend the bulk of his time with the Comets ECHL affiliate, Kalamazoo Wings. Saroway will make a nice addition to the Wings along with Dyson Stevenson and the returning Tanner Sorenson up front.
The Sadowy signing brings the Comets to a total of 13 skaters on AHL deals for the 2019/20 season…so far.
  1. Carter Bancks: F
  2. Wacey Hamilton: F
  3. Vincent Arseneau: LW/RW
  4. Carter Camper: C
  5. Seamus Malone: F
  6. Dyson Stevenson: F
  7. Tanner Sorenson: F
  8. Dylan Sadowy: LW/RW
  9. Dylan Blujus: RD
  10. Stefan LeBlanc: LD
  11. Aaron Thow: LD
  12. Matt Petgrave: LD
  13. Zach Frye: LD
I expect to see Bancks, Hamilton, Arseneau, Malone, Blujus, and LeBlanc start in Utica, while the others head to Kalamazoo to serve as depth for the inevitable injuries and call-ups that will hit the team during the season. I would not be surprised if the team adds another defender or two who can play the right side, but I would imagine that the forward signings are pretty much done unless the team can nab another pivot who could play at the AHL level.
Stay tuned to this space for any and all Utica Comets related player movement throughout the offseason.
