The Utica Comets continue to add organizational depth as they have announced the signing of defender Zach Frye to a one-year AHL deal.
Frye, a left-shot defenceman who hails from Spokane Washington stands 6’1″ and tips the scales at 201lbs. The 25-year-old has suited up for 18 AHL games over two seasons for the San Jose Barracuda where he was able to pick up one goal and three assists to go along with 25 minutes spent in the penalty box.
Frye split last season between the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL, (25 games, five goals, 11 assists, 16 points) and the Barracuda in the AHL, (seven games, one goal, one assist, two points).
In his 136 NCAA game career with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Frye put up 21 goals and 56 assists, giving him 77 points, or 0.57 points-per-game.
Frye joins fellow lefties Olli Juolevi, Ashton Sautner, Guillaume Brisebois, Josh Teves, Stefan LeBlanc, Matt Petgrave, and Aaron Thow in Utica’s system. I would expect Thow, Petgrave, and Frye to start in Kalamazoo, barring injuries to other Canucks/Comets blueliners.
Stay tuned to this space for any and all Utica Comets related player movement.
