Comets Sign Saucerman To PTO
alt
It appears that the Utica Comets have signed defender Colton Saucerman to a PTO, (professional tryout) deal.
The Comets lost defenceman Ashton Sautner to an injury in yesterday’s game against Binghamton, so this signing makes sense. I am unclear at this point how long Sautner will be out if he does indeed miss games.
In Saucerman, the Comets are adding another player who would fit right in on the All-Name Team with Jagger Dirk.
Saucerman is a five-foot-nine, 197lbs, (according to Elite Prospects) defenceman who hails from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 26-year-old, right-shot defender has played in 136 ECHL games, picking up 14 goals and 74 helpers, good enough for 88 points with three different clubs over four seasons.
This season, Saucerman has put up three goals and five assists, to go along with 15 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Idaho Steelheads, as well as one goal, three assists and 23 penalty minutes in 12 games for the Manchester Monarchs, both of the ECHL.
In 17 AHL games split between the Hershey Bears, Springfield Thunderbirds, Providence Bruins, and Ontario Reign, he has put up five points, all assists.
The Comets are currently without Olli Juolevi and Jalen Chatfield due to injuries and if Sautner is also out, that takes the club’s top three defenders out of the picture. Dylan Blujus also got dinged up in the game yesterday, but he returned to finish the game.
With Saucerman added to the mix, the Comets have Blujus, Sifers, Graham and Saucerman as right-shooting defencemen who are healthy. On the left side, Brisebois, McEneny, and Jagger Dirk are at the ready for Trent Cull and his coaching staff.
The Comets are back in action on Wednesday, December 12th against the Providence Bruins. As Always, CanucksArmy will have your post-game report following the game.
