Throwback Thursday: This week in 2006, Vancouver Canucks trade Dan Cloutier to LA

This week in 2006 (July 5), the Vancouver Canucks moved on from Dan Cloutier trading him to the LA Kings. In exchange, Vancouver got a 2nd round pick in 2007 (Taylor Ellington) and LA’s third-round pick in 2009 (later traded to Buffalo, who took Brayden McNabb).

Cloutier had joined the Canucks in 2001 in a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning and he had nothing but success in Vancouver.

Over his 208 games played, Cloutier posted a 109-66-26 record and a .906 save percentage. Come playoff, however, he didn’t see as much success. In 25 playoff games, he posted a 10-13 record with a .872 save percentage.

All in all, the years in Vancouver were Cloutier’s most successful in the NHL with three consecutive 30-win seasons. He later rejoined the Canucks in 2012 as a team consultant also spending time as goaltending coach from 2016-2018 and a director role in 2018-19. He left the team after the 2018-19 season.
