Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
This week in 1994, on May 10th, the Vancouver Canucks beat the Dallas Stars 4-2 to advance to the Western Conference finals.
Vancouver had cruised to a mediocre 41-40-3 regular season, before beating the Calgary Flames in the first round of the playoffs.
The Canucks met the Stars in round two where they jumped out to a 2-0 series lead. Both wins came on the road — a 6-4 win in game one and a 3-0 win in game two.
Vancouver, however, lost game three at home 4-3, but roared back. They stole a 2-1 OT win in game four, before the fateful game five.
The Canucks game out strong to kick off game five with goals from Nathan LaFayette and Pavel Bure in the first period, before Mike Modano go the Stars on the board late in that frame.
With a 2-1 lead, Vancouver extended it in the second with a Murray Craven goal as Bure scored his second in the third period. Dave Gagner scored at 18:09 in the third, but it wasn’t enough as the Canucks eliminated the visiting Stars.
Bure led the way with his two goal performance, as Greg Adams chipped in two assists. In net, Kirk McLean shut the door like he did all playoffs stopping 28 of 30 shots.
