And Thomas makes 12. The Utica Comets announced today that they have signed goaltender Ivan Kulbakov and forward Kyle Thomas. The additions of Kulbakov and Thomas bring the Comets AHL contract total to 12.
I wrote about the Kulbakov signing yesterday for CanucksArmy, but the Comets have made the signing official today.
In Kyle Thomas, the Comets have signed a 28-year-old, right-shot, right-winger who stands six-feet tall and tips the scales at 192lbs.
Thomas split last season between the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, where he played in 50 games and picked up 14 goals and 30 helpers to give him 44 points, and the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. He got into seven games with the Gulls, adding one goal and one assist.
Thomas also got into 12 AHL games in the 2016/17 season with the Cleveland Monsters where he collected another goal and another assist. He has 199 ECHL games under his belt, during which he has collected 59 goals and 101 assists, good for 160 points.
The Comets will have plenty of bodies at their disposal this season with all of these additions and won’t likely have to use very many PTO contracts this time around. Most of the additions, outside of Vincent Arseneau have some pretty intriguing offensive upside as far as callup players go.
Having so many players at the ready who will be familiar with the team systems and culture will go a long way in helping the team get back to the Calder Cup playoffs in the 2018/19 season.
I still expect to see a defender or two signed before opening night in October. Stay tuned.
