The Jacob Markstrom era has officially come to an end in Vancouver as he inks deal with Calgary Flames

The Jacob Markstrom era has officially come to an end fo the Vancouver Canucks.

Hours after the club signed Braden Holtby, Markstrom has inked a deal with the Calgary Flames that will pay him $6-million a year for the next six years. The deal was likely around a million more than the Canucks were willing to pay and a year longer, too.

In Markstrom, the Canucks lose their last link to Roberto Luongo, too. Jacob came to Vancouver in a March 2014 trade from the Florida Panthers that saw the club flip them Luongo.

While Markstrom sat behind Ryan Miller and Eddie Lack in 2013-14, he broke out in 2015-16 posting a 13-14-4 record and a .915 save percentage.

All in all, Markstrom leaves the Canucks having played in 229 games for the organization posting a 99-93-27 record with a .913 save percentage. His only playoff performances came this year with the Canucks run that saw Markstrom play in 14 games posting a 8-6 record and a .919 save percentage.

This past season, Markstrom had one of the best years of his career. Named to the All-Star game for the first time and placing fourth in Vezina voting, Markstrom posted a 23-16-4 record, a .918 save percentage and a +11.40 goals saved above average.
