State Of The Blog 2017: Change Nobody Saw Coming

With the regular season winding down and the Canucks eliminated from contention for the post-season, now is the perfect time to fill our readers in on the state of Canucks Army and the changes happening therein.
First things first, I am stepping down as Managing Editor effective immediately. There have been some unsuspected developments in my professional life that will result in me being unable to continue my work here.
It’s been a tremendous three years for me at Canucks Army, and I’m extremely proud of how the site has become one of the most intelligent, vibrant and influential Canucks communities on the internet. With that in mind, I’d like a moment to say thank you to all the people that have made that possible.
I’d like to thank our team of fantastic writers, both past and present, as well as our social media team, all of whom have helped grow the site’s reach. Associate Editor Ryan Biech especially deserves praise in this regard.
I’d also like to thank each and every one of our readers, without whom the site simply would not function. We’ve had our share of disagreements in the past, but I’ve always appreciated their passionate input.
Most importantly, I’d like to thank the man who will be taking editing duties from this moment on. Most of you know him only by his twitter moniker, @petbugs13, author of the hilarious and insightful Graphic Comments column. As always, he’s responded to the changes with his trademark sense of humour:
So, without further adieu, I’ll turn you over to the new guy:
I guess nobody saw this coming.
When I began contributing at the Nation Network five years ago I never had my sights on the Editor position, but times change. I’m now at the point in my life financially where I can devote myself full-time to my passion for writing about hockey. It may seem odd that the author of a comedic column would take over the day-to-day operations at the site, but Canucks Army has always done things a little differently, and I see no reason why that type of outside-the-box thinking can’t continue. It’s been my intention for quite some time now to expand my role here and move towards covering the Canucks full-time, so when the Managing Editor position opened up, I leaped at the opportunity.
For personal reasons, I intend maintain my anonymity. It’s worked for me thus far and I see no reason to change that. I’m sure my previous work might give the indication that I’m not well-suited for this new role, but I assure you I will be diligent in upholding this blog’s reputation, not only as your primary source for Canucks related news and analysis but in-depth statistical analysis as well. This site has played host to so many brilliant and ambitious minds and even after the most recent exodus of NHL ready thinkers, there’s just a new set of opportunities for the remaining staff to latch onto.
One of my primary goals will be to extend this blog’s reach from the internet to the city we love and grow in. This means there will be more charitable initiatives and social events to facilitate them. I’d very much like to get to know and meet some of the people that make this all possible and if we can contribute to our community in a meaningful fashion in the process, all the better.
Thanks so much for your continued support and all the best in the new year.

I think that brings us all up to speed. Petbugs will be transitioning into his new role through the early part of this month with the help of Associate Editor Ryan Biech. As for the Graphic Comments fans, don’t worry, Petbugs has given me every indication those will continue, perhaps even on a weekly basis now that he’s taking over the site.
We’re all very excited for this change, as we feel it will allow everyone on the blog to play to their strengths and produce the very best product we possibly can. All the things you love and/or love to hate about us are going to remain consistent going forward – we believe this transition is going to help us keep doing what we do best.
