While snow fell all around them throughout Metro Vancouver, the Canucks returned to the ice for the first time since their seven game road trip wrapped up on Monday in Columbus. It was the first time the team had skated at Rogers Arena since a 6-3 win over Ottawa on January 2nd.
What we saw
Fast-paced practice today.
Some great battles between The Lotto Line and the Joshua-Blueger-Garland line today in this five-on-five, full-ice drill.
These lines are really challenging each other. pic.twitter.com/MQolD276T5

There were no changes to the line combinations used over the balance of the road trip. The Lotto Line remains intact for the Canucks and the home fans will have the chance to see Elias Pettersson, JT Miller and Brock Boeser skate as a trio when the team hosts Arizona to kick off a five-game homestand on Thursday night.
Those three have combined for 15 goals and 30 points in the six games since they were reunited in New Jersey on the second game of the road trip.
Pettersson led all Canucks skaters with eight goals and 13 points on the road trip followed by Miller with 4+6=1=10 while Boeser and Filip Hronek each had seven points in the seven game odyssey.
The Canucks are currently rolling with 12 healthy forwards on the roster after Linus Karlsson was re-assigned to Abbotsford. He scored for the AHL Canucks in his return to their line-up last night. With both the big league team and the farm club at home right now, it’ll be interesting to see how the NHL Canucks handle their roster and whether any players will shuttle between the Fraser Valley and downtown Vancouver during this homestand.
The Canucks have teased what appears to be blue chrome helmets at some time this month. With three of the games of the homestand already designated for the black skate jerseys, that leaves tomorrow against Arizona and next week against St. Louis as the only games remaining this month to roll out the shiny headwear.
What we heard
Rick Tocchet on importance of five game homestand: “The focus level for five games, to me, is a very key part of our fabric. Like I’m really interested in how – and I’m very confident that we will be – the focus level of this team in our building for five games where we get the rest a little bit here before the next game tomorrow night but with this five games for me is going to be a big part of our moving forward.”
Quinn Hughes happy to be home and looking forward to five-games before All Star break: “I mean obviously a really long road trip – as long as I can remember since being here – and just really nice to be home and obviously proud of the trip we had and just gotta keep focusing on what’s next. These five games and we’ve got to try to finish strong here.”
