Arguably the most popular jersey among fans, the Canucks’ black flying skate jersey could be making a return this season.
Questions and rumours began swirling as goaltender Thatcher Demko debuted a new gear setup at Canucks practice yesterday, which was highlighted by a mask that pays tribute to Kirk McLean’s memorable bucket:
“I loved it,” captain Bo Horvat said after practice of Demko’s new gear. “I’m a big fan of the Skate jersey. I thought it looked pretty sweet out there, it’ll look even better with a black jersey on for sure.”
Then this got dropped on fans by Thomas Drance of The Athletic:
This is not a drill folks, you can expect to see flying skate freed and back on the ice at Rogers Arena where it belongs sometime in 2022.
The team recreated the jersey for their 50th anniversary celebration during the 2019-20 season, and fans couldn’t get enough of it.
To this day, the stands at Rogers Arena are littered with fans wearing the iconic jersey, and for the first time in almost two years, the players on the ice could be doing the same.
